Green Skiing?

Posted by Michael Sanera on 30 Nov 2007 | Tagged as: Uncategorized

I went online to buy my oldest son a lift ticket for Christmas and found that his favorite ski resort, Copper Mountain, has gone green. They fear that global warming will mean less snow and fewer skiers.

Record snows in the 2003 and 2007, caused FEMA to declare Presidential Snow Emergencies in many Colorado counties and December 2007 was the 3rd snowiest on record in Denver.

2007 Environmental Report

Highlights of our 2nd annual environmental report include our wind renewable energy credits purchase to offset 100% of our electricity, local forest conservation funding and projects, increases in recycling and the formation of an employee-based, tax-deductible environmental fund. The report also converts our natural resources consumption into carbon dioxide emissions.  View Copper’s 2007 Environmental Report.

Environmental Partners

Copper is proud to support the following organizations and campaigns.

  • National Ski Area Association’s Keep Winter Cool Campaign, which supports awareness and action on global warming.
  • National Ski Areas Association’s Sustainable Slopes Campaign, which advocates ski area environmental stewardship in many areas through an environmental charter that Copper supports.
  • The Rocky Mountain Climate Organization is working to build a coalition of businesses and governments in the Rocky Mountain region who support taking action on climate change in our area.
  • The U.S. Forest Service, especially the local White River Forest Ranger District, continues to be our strongest partner in our joint commitment to environmental excellence.
  • The new High Country Conservation Center, formerly known as Summit Recycling Project, is a local Summit County organization supporting recycling, green building, renewable energy and energy efficiency.
