California bid to limit CO2 emissions from autos denied by EPA

The state of California has been denied a waver under the Clean Air Act to implement its own CO2 emission standards, which would have reduced auto emissions by 30 percent. The challenge was brought to the EPA by the auto industry. Here’s the report telling the story. What is interesting is what was acknowledged about the policy by experts like alarmist guru James Hanson and state officials like California Air Resource Board (CARB) Deputy executive Officer Tom Crackette when questioned under oath during the proceedings. They were forced to acknowledge what always goes unspoken, namely that the policies will have no impact on the climate. Here’s James Hanson under questioning:
A: “[The impact] would be smaller than the — than the unforced variability of the system.”
Q. “You’d need a microscope to see the impact put into that context; isn’t that true, sir?”
A. “Yeah. Put into that context, yes.”
And here’s Cackette:
Q. “You’re not aware, as you sit here today, of any calculation that would suggest that it would be large enough to measure even if the entire country adopted AB 1493, correct?”
A: “I’m not aware of any studies.”
Q: “And you’re not aware of any studies that suggest that even if the entire world adopted AB 1493 that you’d achieve a reduction in ambient temperature that would be large enough to measure, correct?”
A: “I’m not aware of any studies, yes”
Similar responses came from Cackette’s counterparts in Vermont and New York. Now we understand why North Carolina’s Climate Action Plan Advisory Group (CAPAG) and the Legislative Commission on Climate Change both refuse to investigate the impact of policies being proposed in North Carolina on actual climate change, even in the context of the policies being adopted by the entire globe. They know that it would show that their policy emperor, in this case the Center for Climate Strategies, is wearing no clothes and that they are simply engaging in a tax a regulatory power grab that will have no compensating climate change benefits.
